About Whitby Marina

Council-run pontoon berths in Whitby's upper harbour above the swing bridge, plus drying pontoons and chain moorings, home to around 350 leisure boats.

North Yorkshire Council runs the leisure moorings in Whitby Harbour, where the River Esk meets the North Sea. The main pontoons are in the upper harbour above the swing bridge, on both the west side and the Church Street side, with a drying pontoon at the southern end and drying chain moorings in the lower and upper harbour.

The pontoon berths are dredged to 1.5m below chart datum, but boats must be able to sit on a soft bottom because silt can build up after high river flows. They have water and electricity and a security gate, and berth holders can buy a parking permit. Most pontoon berths are double-berthed.

The main season runs from 1 April to 31 October with optional winter berthing from November to March. Berthing fees are per metre and are charged on top of annual harbour dues. Berths are allocated from a waiting list.
